One thing I’ve loved about this blogging journey so far is the opportunity to meet and network with other like minded individuals. In this case, other travel bloggers! At the beginning of each year, I start thinking about where I want to travel that year. Often times it’s daydreaming, but it also leads to awesome new adventures. This year I thought to myself…who better to look to for travel inspiration than my fellow travel bloggers?? So I reached out and asked them each to provide me with one location they are visiting in 2018, along with a description as to why they chose that location. Hopefully it can provide you all with some travel inspo as well!
The Philippines – Rocio Cadena from This is Rocio
After spending two years in South Korea, I will begin my 6-month long backpacking trip in the tropical paradise that is the Philippines. Made up of 7,000+ stunning islands this country is often said to have some of the kindest, warmest, most welcoming locals. Add to this that traveling through this country is relatively cheap and did I mention pristine beaches and tasty eats? I’m going to the Philippines first because it is relatively close to Korea but also because I’ll be departing during the winter and a month-long beach getaway will be perfect for processing the previous two years.
While I have an idea of the places I’d like to see in the Philippines – Cebu, Boracay, El Nido, Sagada, Siargao and Siquijor, to name a few – I’m not prearranging too much prior to arriving. I really want this trip to be based on my mood and to embrace going with the flow. I may land in Cebu and figure out the rest from there. After a month in the Philippines, I’ll either go to Indonesia or Thailand. But again, I don’t know yet because I don’t know how I’ll be feeling then. Most of the travel I’ve ever done is constricted by time limitations. I want to truly savor traveling without time hindering or dictating what I do and don’t.
Bali (Indonesia) – Emily from She’s a Trip
I’m going to Bali in 2018 and couldn’t be more excited! There’s only so many times you can hear about inexpensive spa days, delicious foods, and friendly people before you give in and book a ticket. I’ll be spending the majority of 2018 in Australia for a working holiday and know I can just not miss out on Bali while I am on that side of the world. I’ll likely stay for an entire month, hopefully over my birthday. I can already see myself getting a massage, eating Lawar, and taking a bath covered in flower petals. I will be the ultimate “treat yo self” trip.
Jordan – Liliane from My Toronto, My World
We’re doing a big (for us) two and a half week trip to the Middle East in February. The main purpose of the visit was Egypt, but once I got my boss on board with me taking more than two weeks off I knew I had to fit it another country. Jordan was the first one on my list.
We only have 4 days there but we’re going to hit some major sights like Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. Jordan recently had an incident which seems to have scared some people away from Jordan which is a shame. I’m going specifically to see beautiful UNESCO sites like Petra, Wadi Rum and Quseir Amra, to swim in the Dead Sea, to learn more about the Bedouin Culture and to experience an overnight camp in the desert. I’m hoping to come back and be able to share some great insight as to why people should still continue travelling to Jordan and to show off it’s beauty!
Scotland – Lena from The Social Travel Experiment
For years I have been wanting to visit Scotland. One reason is my dad’s love for the country. He has spent many summers cycling the Highlands, and trying whiskey from the many different local distilleries. The other reason is the TV series Outlander. It plays in the Scottish Highlands around Inverness, which really made me fall in love with the history of Scotland.
In 2018 my dream will finally come true. I will visit Scotland together with my parents and boyfriend. We will do a road trip visiting all the famous sights like Inverness, Edinburgh, and the Isle of Skye. Please look forward to blog posts about this trip and many others to come this year.
Budapest (Hungary) – Madi and Ben from The Restless Worker
We are hoping to do a road trip in 2018 that will take us to 3 main cities: Prague, Budapest and Bratislava. Because we both work full-time we obviously need to take advantage of our vacation days when we have them, and see as much as we possibly can!
I think I’m most drawn to Budapest as it’s been on my travel list for quite some time. After having some friends visit and come back raving about it I’ve been obsessed with getting there ever since. Who wouldn’t love to experience the famous thermal baths? Or wander along the Danube looking at the beautiful city skyline? As much as I love getting out in nature, there’s something I adore about exploring old cities. It’s also a relatively cheap place to travel to and some of the Airbnbs that I’ve scoped out in the area look incredible! I can’t wait 🙂
The Cook Islands – Tasha Amy from Backpackers Wanderlust
One of my most exciting trips I have planned already in 2018 is a holiday in the Cook Islands! Located in the Pacific Ocean it is only a short three hour flight from my home country of New Zealand. Also, with direct flights now operating from Los Angeles this is truly an up and coming paradise destination!
There are two islands I will be exploring during my stay in the Cook Islands, Rarotonga and Aitutaki. The majority of my stay will be on the more populated island of Rarotonga with just a day trip with Air Rarotonga to the dream honeymoon destination of Aitutaki. Get prepared for pristine beaches, endless GoPro underwater shots, and sipping cocktails underneath palm trees!
New York City (USA) – Justine from Wanderer of the World
The first half of 2018 will see myself and my fiancé travel to infamous New York City for the first time. NYC has long been on our travel wish lists, but some cheap flights that came up late last year finally sealed the deal for us. There’s a few reasons why New York has been on our wish lists for so long. Firstly, it’s where Gossip Girl was filmed (mega superfan right here!), it’s also so infamous that we want to see what all the fuss is about and we want to better understand just why it’s “the city that never sleeps”. But in all honesty, it was the excellent deal we got on flights that really made us make the leap for this year – who doesn’t love finding the best deals? And I for one can’t wait to finally head to one of my dream destinations!
Now we want to hear from you! Did any of these locations give you major travel inspo? Do you have another location you’re psyched to visit in 2018?? Tell me about it!
Happy traveling 🙂
